FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for application of wear-resistant coatings on cutting tool. Vacuum plasma sandwiched coating is applied. Lower layer from titanium and zirconium compound is applied at their ratio, wt%: titanium 53.3, zirconium 46.7. Intermediate layer from titanium, aluminium and niobium compound nitride is applied at their ratio, wt%: Titanium 65.0-74.0, aluminium 2.0-5.0, niobium 24.0-30.0. Then upper layer of nitride of titanium, zirconium, aluminium and niobium compound is applied at their ratio, wt%: titanium 44.3-52.8, zirconium 29.9-32.4, aluminium 1.3-3.3, niobium 16.0-20.0. Coating layers are applied by three cathodes located horizontally in one plane, first of which is made of titanium. Second cathode from zirconium is located opposite to first one. Third cathode of titanium, aluminium and niobium is located between them. Lower layer is applied using first and second cathodes, intermediate layer is applied by first and third cathodes, and upper layer is by three cathodes.
EFFECT: method provides higher functionality of cutting tool due to high resistance of plates with coating.
