FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of application of wear resistant coatings on cutting tool and can be used in machining. Lower layer of titanium nitride is applied. Then, intermediate layer of titanium and zirconium compound nitride is applied at their ratio, wt%: titanium 53.3, zirconium 46.7. Then upper layer of nitride of titanium, zirconium, aluminium and niobium compound is applied at their ratio, wt%: titanium 44.3-52.8, zirconium 29.9-32.4, aluminium 1.3-3.3, niobium 16.0-20.0. Coating plies are applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane. First cathode is made of titanium, second one consists of zirconium and located opposed to first and third is from alloy of titanium, aluminium and niobium and located between them. Obtained coating is treated with laser radiation with power density of 38…46 kW/cm2.
EFFECT: multilayer coating has high strength and crack resistance, which improves operability of cutting tool with said coating.
