FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: lubricant coating is applied to the article by vapour deposition (PVD), wherein it comprises at least one layer of molybdenum with molybdenum monoxide. Molybdenum monoxide is sprayed into the molybdenum monoxide containing layer by spark sputtering. For one version, the molybdenum containing layer with molybdenum monoxide is prepared by spark sputtering using at least one molybdenum-containing target in a reactive oxygen-containing and/or nitrogen-containing atmosphere. The said coating is used for manufacture of constructive tool. The said coating is applied as a coating for tools used in manufacture of structural elements made of metals or alloys, in particular for cutting or shaping tools.

EFFECT: improved layer having good and stable lubricating properties or improved ductility along with good tribological properties or electrical properties.
