FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry of high-molecular compounds, specifically to a method of producing thermo-, heat- and chemoplastic polydiphenylene-N-arylphthalimidines of general formula I, where Ar=C6H5, 4-ClC6H4, 4-CH3C6H4; p/q from 98/2 to 0/100. Disclosed is a method of producing polymer I by reacting polydiphenylenephthalide with a mixture of a primary aromatic amine and a salt thereof with an acid, preferably tetrafluoroborane hydrogen, at atmospheric pressure in meta-cresol while heating from 170 °C to boiling point of reaction mixture.
EFFECT: efficient and efficient method of converting polydiphenylenephthalide into polydiphenylene-N-arylphthalimidines with a given degree of conversion q.
