SUBSTANCE: method for controlling the supply of a metal charge to the smelting furnace includes a step of storing the metal material to be melted in the storage zone. The step of taking metal material out of the storage zone and loading it onto the material supply means to the furnace is carried out by means of the loading means. At the step of supplying material, the material supplying means load the material data into the smelting furnace. The step of storing provides the separation of the storage zone into separate specialized areas. In each of them metal materials of various types are stored. During the steps of taking and supplying, the data processing device controls the actions of the loading means. They carry out the selection of the selected material types from the specialized areas. The materials are loaded onto the means of supplying the material in accordance with the desired method and quantity. The invention also includes a device for controlling the supply of a metal charge to the smelting furnace.
EFFECT: invention use prevents local agglomeration or non-optimum distribution of the charge material inside an electric furnace.
