SUBSTANCE: device for forming spectral substituting values contains a buffer block for storing previous spectral values associated with the previously received error-free audio frame. In addition, the device comprises a masking frame generator for generating spectral replacement values, when the current audio frame is not received or is erroneous. The previously received error-free audio frame contains filter information. The filter information has an associated filter stability value indicating the stability of the predictive filter. The masking frame generator is configured to generate spectral replacement values based on previous spectral values and based on the stability value of the filter.

EFFECT: providing the possibility of masking errors for frames of an audio signal without the occurrence of artificial artifacts.
