FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves hydrolysis of uranium hexafluoride, with uranium hexafluoride pre-cooled to the temperature of ≤-40°C. Ammonium fluoride and ice are added to the water, the amount of which is selected from the condition for compensation of heat release during the hydrolysis of uranium hexafluoride, uranium hexafluoride is gradually added to the mixture, and its quantity is selected inversely proportional to the growth of the solution temperature of the products, further processing of the hydrolysis products with ammonia water, filtration and heat treatment of the precipitate are performed. The method does not require sophisticated aggregated system of devices and can be applied for processing both highly enriched and depleted (dump) uranium hexafluoride in the isotope U235, including after a long period of its storage.
EFFECT: improving the efficiency and productivity of processing significant quantities of uranium hexafluoride.
