SUBSTANCE: device for transporting paper sheets includes a transporting element, a paper sheet detection unit, and a control unit. The transporting element can slide in the direction of transportation path width. Sheet detecting unit is located on the inlet side of the conveying element in the direction of paper sheet transportation along the transportation path. The detection unit determines the position of the paper sheet in the width direction of the transportation path. The control unit calculates the movement value of the conveying element based on the paper sheet position in the width direction of the transportation path and the predetermined position of the paper sheet in the width direction of the transportation path. When carrying out the method for transporting paper sheets, the position of the sheet is determined in the width direction of the transportation path in front of the transporting element. The amount of required movement of the transportation element in the direction of the width of the transportation path is calculated. The transporting element is moved based on the calculated movement value during the sheet transportation.
EFFECT: possibility of aligning the transported sheet along the width of the transportation path to a predetermined position.
