FIELD: automotive engineering.
SUBSTANCE: tread contains a plurality of circumferential grooves (2) limiting at least three ribs (4, 5, 6). The tread (1) is limited in the axial direction by two lateral rows (7, 8). Each rib (4, 5, 6) has a lot of notches (41, 51, 61), made for, at least, partial closure during the passage through the area of contact with the road surface. These notches open to each side of the rib, forming two edges, and have a depth at least equal to 50% of the height of the rib. The notches (41, 51, 61) pairwise limit the elementary volume (40, 50, 60) of the rib, and also the elementary contact surface (400, 500, 600). Each elementary volume (40, 50, 60), limited by two notches of one rib, includes the volume of recess (42, 52, 62) opening to the contact side in new condition. This volume of the recess has a total area on the rolling surface of at least 0.4% and not more than 1.5% of the area of the elementary contact surface (400, 500, 600). The volume of the recess (42, 52, 62) has a depth of at least equal to half the depth of the grooves. The volume of the recess is determined in such a way that it remains open during passage through the contact area to trap liquid that may be present on the road.
EFFECT: improved tread grip with wet covering while maintaining wear resistance.
