FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: phenol solution is prepared in dimethylsulfoxide, which is subjected to a nitrating reagent. An aqueous solution of nitric acid with the concentration of 60-65% is used as a nitrating agent. The reaction is carried out in a boiling water bath for, at least, 4 hours.
EFFECT: it is allowed to produce picric acid of sufficiently high quality in one stage.
