SUBSTANCE: card reader (1) is configured such that an opening (13) is provided between the positioning element (50) and the guide part (29a) to allow the magnetic head to pass therethrough. The distance (L) between the card contact portion (50a) in the positioning element (50) and the inner end of the guide part (29a) is less than the transverse dimension (W2) of the card (2). When the opening (13) is closed by the shutter element (14), the front end of the shutter element (14) is located below the guide part (29a), and when the opening (13) is not closed by the shutter element (14), the shutter element (14) is located below the guide part (29a). When the shutter element (14) closes the opening (13), it can guide the inner edge of the card (2) to the card support part (50b) in the positioning element (50).

EFFECT: execution of the device with the ability to feed the card in its transverse direction ensures smooth movement of the gate element, even if an opening is provided in the supply path that allows the magnetic head to pass through it.
