FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method of detecting contamination in soils and groundwaters, based on the detection of the electromagnetic response of rocks on the probing electromagnetic radiation with a frequency lying in the range from ultralong-wavelength to medium-wavelength, while emitting an electromagnetic probing signal by the source, the electric and magnetic components of the electromagnetic field excited by the specified probing signal are measured by the sensors at the probing points, located with a certain step on the probing lines distributed across the area of the investigated zone, the measured data are processed and the values of the surface impedance and the frequency dependence of apparent resistivity and impedance phase at the probing point are determined, according to the interpretation results of which the presence of contamination in soils and groundwaters is judged, according to the invention as the source of the probing signal using a standalone generator with a frequency range of 1 to 1000 kHz, and the generating line in the form of the finite length cable grounded to the ends, the electrical and magnetic components of the electromagnetic field are measured at the probing points forming a measurement network, certainly overlapping the area of the possible contamination zone, and located with steps of 5 to 50 m on the probing lines oriented in one direction, spaced from each other at the distance of 10 to 200 m, at the same time the location of the probing radiation source is controlled so that the probing points are in the far zone of its action.

EFFECT: increasing the reliability of the probing results in the detection and delineation of the contamination zones.
