SUBSTANCE: method of charging a road vehicle with a battery drive and an electric vehicle starts from the arrival of the vehicle in the charging station. The control device contacts the contact system and the contact elements of the charging station located above the road vehicle. The control device of the charging station, on the basis of the command to turn on, supplies voltage to the contact elements. The charging rectifier sets the output voltage or charging current from the charging rectifier. In the charging mode, the traction rectifier is used as an AC charging rectifier. The winding of the electric machine is used as the working inductance of the AC charging rectifier. AC voltage network is a three-phase current network with several phases. Each phase has its own contact element.
