FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: 0.01-0.30 wt % of hydrogen peroxide is added to a solution of polysaccharide in an aqueous solution of acetic acid containing 0.1-2.5 wt % of iron chloride (II), or cobalt chloride (II), or nickel chloride (II), at the temperature of 20-40°C. The reaction mixture is then kept under vigorous stirring for 15-40 minutes. Then, a solution of acrylamide in (meth) acrylic acid or N,N-di(methyl)ethyloxyethyl methacrylate is introduced into the reaction mass in the ratio of 0.1:0.9÷0.9:0.1 of mole parts, and 0.1-10.0 wt % N,N-methylene-bis-acrylamide or diethylene glycol dimethacrylate, propylene glycol dimethacrylate. The reaction mixture is kept under stirring for 3 hours at the temperature of 20-40°C and freeze-dried. Chitosan or starch is used as polysaccharide.

EFFECT: improving the soil structure and storing soil moisture in the arid regions, the invention allows to produce a polymer exhibiting superabsorbent properties and having the ability to absorb large amounts of water.
