SUBSTANCE: in the method the presence of a short-circuit or an open-circuit failure of the main switch of the power converter of the switched reluctance motor is diagnosed by measuring the instantaneous value of the phase current iO(t) of the mentioned converter in working order, as well as the instantaneous value of the current phase i(t) of the mentioned converter for obtaining an integral value SnO of phase current by the integration operation during a certain period in working order and an integral value Sn of phase current during a certain period in the current state, the ratio En of which, i.e. En=Sn/SnO, is the characteristic parameter of the fault.

EFFECT: improved accuracy of fault location determination.
