FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: cassette assembly with fastening elements for a surgical instrument end effector contains a cassette housing, a deformable tube and a fastening element. The fastening element is movable between the initial position and the activated position. The deformable tube is located longitudinally along the length of the housing. When the fastening element is moved to the activated position, it compresses part of the deformable tube. The deformable tube contains an elastic material which creates a restoring force. The deformable tube may comprise a grid of strands interwoven together to form a tube wall. Additionally, the deformable tube may be bioresorbable and may contain a therapeutic agent. The cassette assembly with fastening elements may comprise a plurality of substantially parallel deformable tubes disposed side by side and/or one inside the other.
