SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medical equipment and can be used with a surgical stapling tool. Assembly includes a cartridge body having a support portion with a plurality of staple cavities with openings. At least a portion of each staple is removably stored inside the staple cavity. Each staple is movable between the un-fired position and fired position and is deformable between the un-fired position and fired position. Compressible tissue thickness compensator is configured to be captured within the staples. Compressible tissue thickness compensator at least partially covers the staple cavity openings.
EFFECT: compressed tissue thickness compensator is configured to assume different compressed heights within different the staples and comprises lyophilised foam having a hydrophilic agent embedded therein.
