FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: tissue thickness compensator comprises at least one woven grating that is located in the end effector of the surgical instrument. A cassette with fastening elements disposed in the end effector comprises at least one receptacle configured to receive the fastening element. The fastening element is movable between a starting position in which the fastening member is at least partially located in the seat and an activated position in which the fastening member is configured to compress the woven lattice of the tissue thickness compensator. The woven lattice is made of an elastic material, as a result of which the compression of the braided lattice creates a restoring force. The axis of the woven lattice laterally passes through a cassette with fastening elements, or diagonally passes through a cassette with fasteners, or crosses the surface of the cassette platform with fasteners.
EFFECT: woven lattice contains a hydrophilic substance that can expand when the woven lattice is cut with a cutting element.
