FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: self-adhesive detergent compositions containing a pH-sensitive colour-changing system are described. A cleaning composition for hard surfaces is described, comprising: (1) a purification system comprising components that make the composition self-adhesive on a solid surface in the absence of an adhesive and under the action of a plurality of separate water-based washing, where aqueous washings have a pH of about 6 up to 8; and (2) a colour changing system, wherein the said composition is adapted to progressively dissolve during the said plurality of separate aqueous washings of the said composition to form a dissolved detergent portion; and wherein the said colour changing system has a pH of about 2 to about 5, or a pH of about 9 to 11, and comprises (a) at least, one pH control agent, and (b) at least, one colour changing colorant that imparts the said composition the first colour and which is adapted to cause a discolouration of the said dissolved detergent portion at each of the said plurality of separate aqueous washings to thereby change the said first colour of the said dissolved detergent portion to the second colour and so with it to impart the said second colour to the said aqueous washings, wherein the said first colour is different from the said second colour.
