SUBSTANCE: internal combustion engine with variable compression ratio includes a control shaft (13) supported for rotation by engine housing, a mechanism (10) of variable compression ratio for changing engine compression ratio in accordance with angular position of the shaft (13), drive means (21) which drives the control shaft (13), and speed reduction mechanism (22) to reduce the torque of the drive means (21) and transmit the power of control shaft (13) at reduced speed. The speed reduction mechanism (22) has a rotation shaft (24) supported for rotation in the housing (26) attached to the engine housing, and a lever (25) which connects the rotation shaft (24) and control shaft (13). A first adjustment part (42) for mechanical adjustment of control shaft to the position of maximum rotation on one side from the side of low compression ratio and the side of high compression ratio is arranged in the engine housing (13). A second part (41) is also arranged in the housing (26) for mechanical adjustment of rotation shaft (24) to the maximum rotation position on the other side of low compression ratio side and the side of high compression ratio.
