SUBSTANCE: valve for discharging gas from the centrifugal separator comprises a valve body having a central axis (C) around which the valve can rotate, a cavity located at a radial distance from the central axis (C) and comprising a valve ball and a valve seat, at least one drainage channel extending from the valve seat of the cavity to the outside of the valve body, and at least one gas inlet extending from the outside of the valve body to the cavity. Wherein, the valve ball is resting in the cavity and positioned so as to float on the surface of the liquid present in the cavity, is movable in the cavity radially from the rotational axis (C) from the closed position in which the ball leans on the valve seat and blocks gas in the cavity from the inlet of said at least one drainage channel, to an open position in which the valve ball is at a greater radial distance from the axis (C) than the closed position. In the open position, the valve ball does not block the valve seat and allows the gas to escape into the cavity from the valve through the said drainage channel. The centrifugal separator comprises a rotor body which is rotatable about an axis (R) of rotation and comprises a separating chamber for separating the liquid material, an inlet pipe for the liquid material to be treated, at least one outlet for discharging the heavy phase, and at least one outlet for liquid light phase for the release of liquid light phase, and a valve placed on the inlet. The valve is further arranged such that the central axis (C) of rotation is aligned with the rotational axis (R) of the centrifugal separator in such a way that the gas collected at the inlet can enter into said valve gas inlet. According to a method for discharging gas from the inlet of a centrifugal separator, a separator is provided, liquid material to be treated is introduced through the inlet to the separator, allowing the gas collected at the inlet to be discharged from said separator valve.
