FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: contrast multilayer pigment contains a substrate in the form of flat particles having an average diameter of 5 to 300 mcm and is coated with, at least, one transparent dielectric layer. The refractive indices of each dielectric layer differ from each other or from the refractive index of the substrate by not less than 0.05. The pigment is covered with an additional transparent layer not involved in creating the interference, which contains a metameric pigment or a metameric combination of pigments selectively absorbing in, at least, two areas of the visible and/or UV-, IR-spectrum. Alternatively, one of the said dielectric layers may comprise a metameric pigment or metameric combination of pigments selectively absorbing in, at least, two areas of the visible and/or UV- and IR-spectrum.
EFFECT: invention allows to enhance the contrast colour transition of multilayer pigments without mixing with the dyes and without using a dark substrate.
