FIELD: paint industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to obtain paint coatings, anti-corrosion coatings, paints for glass and ceramics, plastics, printing inks, decorative cosmetics. Method for producing a substrate for a pyropyillite-based multi-layer pearlescent pigment involves grinding crushed pyrophyllite in a knife mill to obtain a fine grinding fraction with an average particle size of 0.5 to 10 mm. Then, thermal expansion of the obtained particles in a fluidized bed at a temperature of from 600 °C up to 1000 °C for 3 min. Smooth scaled substrate for the pyrophyllite-based multi-layer pearlescent pigment has a smooth non-deformed surface, characteristic ratio of diameter and thickness, equal to 800–1200, and a particle diameter of 5 microns to 1 mm.
EFFECT: invention allows to obtain a substrate based on pyrophyllite, split into separate smooth scales, with a high characteristic ratio of diameter and thickness.
