FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: coating composition having a solid content of more than 70 wt % and volatile organic compounds (VOC) of less than 250 g/l including polyester polyol, wherein polyester polyol is prepared from reagents comprising: (a) 10 to 40 wt % of one or more aliphatic polyols containing 3 or more hydroxyl groups and 2 to 14 carbon atoms per molecule, (b) 10 to 40 wt % of one or more aromatic polycarboxylic acids containing 2 or more acidic groups per molecule or corresponding their esters and/or anhydrides selected from isophthalic acid, phthalic acid, terephthalic acid, phthalic anhydride, and trimellitic anhydride, and (c) 30 to 75 wt % of one acid or mixture of 6-C20 monobasic fatty acids, where one acid or mixture of C6-C20 monobasic fatty acids have an iodine number of less than 30 cg/g and is a liquid in accordance with ASTM (1996) D4359-90; wherein polyester polyol has a hydroxyl number (OHV) of more than 60 and less than 200 mg KOH/g, and the weight percentage of each component (a), (b) or (c) is the weight percentage of this component in percent relative to the total weight (a) + (b) + (c), and, at least, one isocyanate-functional hardening agent, and wherein the coating composition is capable of curing at ambient temperature. A substrate coated with the above coating composition is also described. A method for coating a substrate is described by applying the above coating composition to the substrate and curing the coating composition at ambient temperature to form a coating layer on the substrate.

EFFECT: fast curing at ambient temperature and high abrasion resistance, lower content of the volatile organic compounds.
