FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method is carried out in a reactor that contains one or more catalyst layers for hydrogenation processing. The hydrocarbon feedstock is mixed with hydrogen and optionally a diluent to form a mixture of liquid feedstock. Hydrogen is dissolved in the mixture, and the mixture of the liquid feedstock is introduced into the down-stream reactor under the hydrogenation processing conditions. The catalyst layer (s) for hydrogenation processing is completely filled with liquid, and the feedstock reacts upon contact with the catalyst. Hydrogen gas is injected into, at least, one of the catalyst layers for hydrogenation processing such that, at least, a portion of the hydrogen consumed in the layer is compensated and the state of full fluid filling is maintained. In the reactor with multiple catalyst layers, hydrogen gas may be injected into more than one or all of the catalyst layers for hydrogenation processing.
EFFECT: by injecting hydrogen directly into the layer, a higher conversion can be achieved with respect to hydrogen supply only in the feedstock in front of the reactor.
