FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: three single two-stroke engines with external combustion chamber are combined in a tandem so that the geometric axes of their power take-off shafts are located on one geometric axis, and each crank thereof are sequentially turned relative to each other by one third of turn of the power take-off shaft. Before starting the engine, a control system determines the position of the power pistons in cylinders of each single engine and selects the one, in which the power piston is located closer to the top dead point position, and the crank is in position providing rotation of the power take-off shaft in specified direction. During the start, the control system supplies fuel to the external combustion chamber of the selected single engine by a nozzle. Fuel is ignited by the spark plug. The combustion products are delivered through an intake valve to the above piston space of power piston which moves under the action of coming combustion products towards the bottom dead center and rotates the power take-off shaft. The shaft drives the remaining pistons of the tandem engine. The control system operates sequentially every third rotation of the shaft as at the engine single start.
EFFECT: increased engine efficiency.
