FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: method of operation of a lithium-ion storage battery as a part of an independent power supply system of an artificial Earth satellite consists in monitoring the voltage of the batteries, carrying out charges, discharges, periodically balancing of the batteries by voltage, recharging and storing in a recharged state. According to the method, periodically after carrying out the charge or before the planned discharge of the storage battery, the self-discharge rate of the battery with the minimum current voltage and the maximum time until the battery reaches a critical reduction of the current capacity is calculated, and the balancing is carried out no later than the calculated time.
EFFECT: more accurate determination of the start time of the battery balancing.
