FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of producing an oxymorphone acid adduct that comprises hydrogenating an aqueous solution of 14-hydroxymorphinone and an acid to form a solution of an oxymorphone acid adduct, wherein the hydrogenation is carried out at a temperature above 40°C in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst for the hydrogenation of a platinum group metal (PGM) and hydrogen gas, where the aqueous solution is heated to a temperature prior to the supply of hydrogen gas, and wherein the solution of the oxymorphone acid adduct is contained in 6α-hydroxymorphol in an amount as determined by HPLC≤3.00% of the area. The process can also be carried out in a solvent containing alcohol and optionally water.
EFFECT: decreasing the impurity content ofα 6-oxymorphol.
