FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: pore structure of rocks and other materials can be determined by microscopy and is subject to digital modeling to determine the properties of fluid streams passing through the material. To save computational resources, the simulation is preferably performed on a standard volume element (SVE). In some embodiments of the method, the determination of the multiphase SVE can be performed by deriving a parameter associated with the porosity from the pore model and material matrix; determining the multiphase distribution within the pores of the material; separating the model of pores and matrix into several phase and matrix models; and deducing the parameter associated with the porosity from each phase and matrix model. Then, the dependence of the parameter on the phase and saturation can be determined and analyzed to select a suitable size of the SVE.
EFFECT: high accuracy and reliability of the obtained data.
