ROTARY DRIVE RODS ASSEMBLIES FOR SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS WITH PIVOTALLY-ROTATED END EFFECTORS Russian patent published in 2017 - IPC A61B17/68 A61B17/00 A61B34/00

Abstract RU 2639998 C2

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: drive rod assembly for the surgical instrument comprises a plurality of movable coupling segments connected to each other to form a flexible hollow tube including a proximal end and a distal end; and a flexible secondary restrictive element in flexible restrictive engagement with the plurality of movable coupling segments to retain the engaged coupling segments in movable engagement and to simultaneously provide bending of the drive shaft assembly. The secondary limiting element is a spirally wound element extending around the perimeter of the hollow tube. The spirally wound element includes a central portion, a proximal end portion and a distal end portion. The proximal and distal end portions have a denser winding than the central portion. The method for flexible drive rod assembly formation for a surgical instrument includes: provision of a hollow rod; cutting of a plurality of interconnected segments to be moved together in a hollow rod by means of a laser and installation of the secondary restrictive element on the hollow rod to hold the interconnected movably connected coupling segments engaged and to simultaneously allow drive rod assembly bending. Installation is setting of the spiral wound element around the hollow rod perimeter. The spiral wound element includes a central portion, a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, and the proximal and distal end portions have a denser winding than the central portion.

EFFECT: obtaining of a surgical device capable of developing the range of forces necessary for efficient tissue cutting and stitching, and which can be used with various robotic surgical systems.
