SUBSTANCE: uncertainty associated with a particular location is estimated relative to the size of the area of interest, i.e. of a geographic area called a geofence, in order to determine whether a computing device is inside the geofence or outside the geofence. On the basis of this determination, various actions can be taken if the user enters the geofence, exits the geofence, remains in the geofence, at least during the threshold time interval.
