FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of forming a surface microstructure, especially on a substrate, comprises the steps of: A) applying a curable composition to, at least, a portion of the substrate, wherein the said curable composition comprises: a1) at least, one ethylenically unsaturated resin, a monomer, or a mixture thereof; a2) at least, one photoinitiator and a3) a metallic pigment, which is in the form of plated shaped transition metal particles having a largest edge length dimension of 5 to 1000 nm, preferably from 7 to 600 nm and in particular from 10 to 500 nm, and a thickness of 1 nm to 100 nm, preferably from 2 to 40 nm, and in particular from 3 to 30 nm; wherein the weight ratio of the metallic pigment to the binder is from 5: 1 to 1: 1000; B) contacting, at least, a portion of the curable composition with the surface microstructure, especially forming an optically variable image agent; C) curing the composition by using, at least, one UV lamp.
EFFECT: present invention makes it possible to print microstructures on a substrate, providing relief and metallizing the surface relief in a single technological step using a conventional printing system.
