FIELD: measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: position of the boundaries and the length of the section of the pipeline exposed to the geomagnetically induced current is determined. A measuring point is selected between the boundary and the middle of the section of the pipeline under consideration exposed to the geomagnetically induced current. In the period of geomagnetic field perturbations, the displacement of the pipeline potential relative to the ground is measured during a certain time interval with a predetermined step at the selected point. During the same period of time, a variation of the geomagnetic field at a point remote from the pipeline is measured with a given step. The magnitude of the change in the potential displacement and the magnitude of the change in the geomagnetic field are determined at a point remote from the pipeline. Based on the measured values, the transition resistance is calculated and the technical state of the pipeline section to be checked is judged.

EFFECT: reduced labour intensity for determination of the technical state of the insulating coating of the underground pipeline.
