SUBSTANCE: laser hair cutting device is provided that includes a laser source, an optically transparent exit window, and optical elements. The laser source provides an incident light beam for cutting hair over and around the surface of the skin through the laser-induced optical destruction (LIOB) of hair in the focal position of the beam. The optically transparent exit window has an external output surface to allow the incident light beam to exit from the device. Optical elements focus the incident light beam in the focal position at a working distance from the exit surface. The laser source and the optical elements are arranged and configured such that the working distance is at least , where NA means the numerical aperture of the incident light beam coming from the device, Ep means the energy in the pulse (J) of the incident light beam, Fthresh means the threshold of the integrated flux density (J/m2) of the exit surface, M2 means the quality of the beam of the incident light beam and λ means the wavelength (m) of the incident light beam.
