FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: radiation detecting unit contains an ionization chamber for detecting radiation. The ionization chamber contains a volume of compressed gas. The outer casing accommodates the ionization chamber in its internal volume and contains a fracturable part. The restricting unit restricts the flow of gas from the ionization chamber to the fracturable part of the outer casing that relieves pressure within the ionization chamber when the pressure of compressed gas in the ionization chamber exceeds a predetermined pressure such that, at least, a portion of compressed gas flows through the restricting unit and through the fracturable part of the outer casing. Compressed gas is then discharged on the outside of the outer casing. A method for reducing pressure in a radiation detection unit is also described.
EFFECT: increasing the efficiency.
