FIELD: measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: method for determining distance to gamma-ray source includes measurement of energy spectrum in areas of its characteristic peak of total absorption and compton scattering, performing gamma-physical calculations, determining distance from the derived dependencies. Gamma-physical calculations involve determination of number of pulses in the peak of the total absorption and the selected region of the compton scattering, correction of measurements taking into account function of detector response, algorithm of transition to the distance value.

EFFECT: increased accuracy and simplified determination of distance to gamma-radiation sources.
