FIELD: machine engineering.

SUBSTANCE: end face seal is made of composite material based on carbon-carbide-silicon matrix, which contains free silicon and reinforced frame of cloth-piercing structure orienting therein the layers of low-modulus carbon cloth perpendicular to its working surface and arranging fibers in each fabric layer at 45° angle to said surface. The composite material is impermeable for liquid, the content of silicon carbide in the carbon-carbide-silicon matrix of the composite material increases towards its working surface, free silicon is in open pores of carbon-carbide-silicon matrix, and its fragments on the side of specified surface do not exceed 10 mcm.

EFFECT: increased service life of the end seals, reduced weight and reduced leakage of liquid pumped by the pump.
