SUBSTANCE: client can use placeholders to represent objects of the remote file system. Placeholders can include metadata and may also not include or include a part or the whole content of the submitted objects of the remote file system. Together with the local file system metadata placeholders can be used for navigating the file system namespace and allow to perform any other operations on the objects of the file system, even when the client is offline relative to the remote file system. Once the connection to the remote file system is restored, placeholders can be used to synchronize the changes.
EFFECT: reduced storage space of data that is consumed locally on the client machine.
