FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to inorganic sorbents. Sorbent containing a stabilized oxide and/or iron (II) hydroxide is proposed. Oxide and/or iron hydroxide is stabilized with an alkaline compound, preferably selected from potassium, sodium and ammonium hydroxides. Sorbent is free of chloride and sulfate anions. Preferably, the sorbent particles may be formed from siderite.
EFFECT: invention extends the range of sorbents based on iron, compounds suitable for the removal of sulfur compounds such as H2S, from liquid and/or gaseous streams, in particular from hydrocarbon streams.
