ABLATION CONTROL BASED ON CONTACT FORCE Russian patent published in 2018 - IPC A61B18/12

Abstract RU 2648213 C2

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions refers to medical technology, namely to means of contact monitoring during ablation of tissues. Ablation method comprises the steps of inserting a probe into the body of a living subject, probe having an ablation electrode, selecting a contact force acting between the ablation electrode and the target tissue, a power level and a time interval, predicting the size of the damaged portion, in accordance with the relationship between a given contact force acting between the ablation electrode and the target tissue, amount of energy transmitted by the electric current, and the time interval during which the electric current passes through the ablation electrode, the iteration of the stage of predicting the size of the damaged portion as a non-linear function of the contact force, power level and time interval, by changing the contact force and maintaining power level and time interval values at a constant level, until a saturation point is found in which an increase in the contact force does not lead to an increase in the predicted size of the damaged site, that one of the iteration of the prediction stage predicts the necessary size of the damaged portion, bringing the ablation electrode into contact with the target tissue, and ablation of the target tissue using contact force, power level and time interval of one iteration. Device comprises a flexible catheter configured to insert a living subject into the heart and having a distally located ablation electrode for contacting the target tissue in the heart, ablator configured to apply an energy dose to the target tissue at a power level allowing ablation of the target tissue, processor and monitor, wherein the processor is configured to perform iterations of the step of predicting the size of the damaged portion as a non-linear function of the contact force, power level and time interval by changing the contact force and maintaining power level and time interval values at a constant level, until saturation point is reached. Device further comprises an impedance measurement system comprising an electrode on a body surface for attachment to a subject, which has a circuit for passing an electric current between an electrode on the surface of the body and an ablation electrode and a control circuit for the operation of the ablator.

EFFECT: use of inventions allows to simulate the size of the damaged area.
