SEQUENTIAL ACTIVATION OF PAIRS OF ELECTRODES DURING IRREVERSIBLE ELECTROPORATION (IEP) Russian patent published in 2022 - IPC A61B18/14

Abstract RU 2781798 C2

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medicine, namely to a method and a system for irreversible electroporation (hereinafter – IEP). The system contains a catheter with electrodes, an IEP power source for ablation, and a processor. When implementing the method, electrodes of the catheter are placed in contact with organ tissue. Using the processor, a protocol of application of IEP pulses is set. In this case, the protocol sets an order of power supply to different pairs of electrodes and time necessary for dissipation of electric heating. Bipolar IEP pulses are generated. Tissue is ablated by supply of bipolar IEP pulses to pairs of electrodes according to the order. At the same time, time separation of two activations of the same pair of electrodes for a preset time interval is provided, so that, before reuse for IEP, time for cooling is provided for each electrode. Pairs of electrodes are synchronized in such a way that to eliminate overheating during the application of IEP to tissue. At the same time, continuous spatial ablation is provided.

EFFECT: due to a combination of synchronization of power supply to pairs of electrodes for elimination of overheating during the application of IEP to tissue and time necessary for dissipation of electric heating, set for time separation of two activations of the same pair of electrodes for a preset time interval in such a way that, before reuse for IEP, time for cooling is provided for each electrode, while providing continuous spatial ablation, a uniform generated electric field is provided on a section of tissue, while electric heating of tissue, having clinical danger, is eliminated, safety and efficiency of a procedure for a patient are increased.
