FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to inorganic chemistry and can be used to produce alpha aluminium hydride, which can be used as an energy component of fuel cells and solid rocket fuels. To produce alpha aluminium hydride, a reaction is carried out between aluminum chloride and lithium aluminum hydride in the temperature range -40...-15 °C in a mixture of ether and toluene to form a solution of an ether complex of aluminum hydride and precipitation of lithium chloride. Solution of the ether complex of aluminum hydride is added to heated toluene at a temperature in the range of 50–70 °C followed by holding in said temperature range for 30–60 minutes. After that, the temperature of toluene is raised to 70–105 °C at a rate of 1–5 degrees per minute. Desired product is separated from toluene.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase the bulk density of stabilised alpha aluminum hydride, to simplify the process of its production, to exclude the dangerous stage of screening the product on sieves while maintaining a high yield of the product.
