FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to inorganic chemistry and can be used for production of alpha aluminium hydride, which can be used as a power component of fuel elements and solid rocket propellant. Described is a method of producing alpha aluminium hydride, involving reaction between aluminium chloride and lithium aluminium hydride to form a solution of aluminium hydride ether complex and precipitation of lithium chloride, dosing aluminium hydride ether complex solution into heated toluene, containing a modifying additive, and extracting end product from heated toluene, wherein modifying additive used is alkali metal chlorides, reaction between aluminium chloride and lithium aluminium hydride is carried out in temperature range from -40÷15 °C, and duration of dosing aluminium hydride ether complex solution in toluene, heated to temperature in range of 70÷105 °C is 10-30 minutes.
EFFECT: increasing output of end product to 80-96 % and higher safety of process.
