FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to methods of application of wear resistant coatings on a cutting tool and can be used in metalworking. Vacuum-plasma application of a wear-resistant coating from titanium nitride, aluminum, silicon, niobium and molybdenum at their ratio, wt %: titanium 63.56, aluminum 10.11, silicon 0.94, niobium 21.47, molybdenum 3.92. Coating is applied by horizontally arranged in one plane three cathodes, the first of which is made from an alloy of titanium and silicon, the second one is made from an alloy of titanium and aluminum and is placed opposite to the first one, and the third one is made as a compound of niobium and molybdenum and is placed between the formers.
EFFECT: result of application of the wear-resistant coating is higher cutting efficiency of the tool.
