FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to methods of application of wear resistant coatings on a cutting tool and can be used in metalworking. Vacuum-plasma application of a wear-resistant coating from titanium nitride, aluminum, silicon, chromium and niobium at their ratio, wt %: titanium 56.37, aluminum 9.37, silicon 0.86, chromium 21.26, niobium 12.14. Coating is applied by horizontally arranged in one plane three cathodes, the first of which is made from an alloy of titanium and silicon, the second one is made from an alloy of titanium and aluminum and is placed opposite to the first one, and the third one is made as a compound of chromium and niobium and is placed between the formers.
EFFECT: result of application of the wear-resistant coating is higher cutting efficiency of the tool.
