FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machine building, particularly, to application of nanostructured and wear-resistant coatings by ion-plasma sputtering on surface of cutting tools. Method of producing a wear-resistant coating of a cutting tool comprises applying on a surface of a cutting tool a coating comprising titanium, aluminum and niobium, wherein before application of coating surface of cutting tool is subjected to ion-plasma etching in vacuum chamber by low-temperature argon plasma at pressure of 1–3 Pa, and after application – phase-forming thermal oxidative annealing at temperature of 550–650 °C for 1–2 hours. Coating is carried out by ion-plasma sputtering at pressure 1–3 Pa, current 150–200 mA to obtain coating with thickness of 100–300 mcm. Applied coating additionally contains vanadium and titanium diboride.
EFFECT: high wear resistance, resistance to fatigue cracking of the coating and resistance to corrosion destruction of the surface of the cutting tool.
