FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to methods of application of wear resistant coatings on a cutting tool and can be used in metalworking. Method involves performing vacuum-plasma deposition of a wear-resistant coating of nitride of titanium, niobium, aluminum, silicon and molybdenum at the following ratio, mass%: titanium 44.8, niobium 18.9, aluminum 12.3, silicon 1.6, molybdenum 22.4. Coating application is carried out horizontally in one plane by three cathodes. First cathode is made up of a compound of niobium and an alloy of aluminum and silicon, second is made of molybdenum and is positioned opposite the first, third is made of titanium and placed between them.
EFFECT: result of application of the wear-resistant coating is higher cutting efficiency of the tool.
