SUBSTANCE: in general, the invention relates to a composite propeller shaft assembly. In particular, the present invention relates to a coupling shaft assembly for a composite propeller shaft assembly. Composite propeller shaft assembly (10) comprises propeller shaft assembly (12), universal joint (16), coupling shaft assembly (14, 14A, 14B, 14C, 14D) and rotational support member (84). Propeller shaft assembly (12) is provided with fork (18, 18A) located at one of its ends. Universal joint (16) is attached to fork (18, 18A). Coupling shaft assembly (14, 14A, 14B, 14C, 14D) comprises a flange-fork (18, 18A) and pipe (44, 44A, 44B, 44C). Fork (18, 18A) comprises a pair of spaced lugs (20) having coaxial holes and separated by body portion (22, 22A) to which each of lugs (20) is integrally formed, such that said body portion (22, 22A) comprises a solid base with a U-shaped section and annular wall (36, 36A) axially extending from base opposite to lugs (20) and comprising tube mounting portion (58, 58A). Pipe (44, 44A, 44B, 44C) is directly attached to pipe fitting portion (58, 58A) by a weld seam. Rotational support member (84) surrounds a portion of the outer surface of flange-fork (18, 18A) and is directly attached thereto between pipe (44, 44A, 44B, 44C) and universal joint (16).
EFFECT: design of an improved composite propeller shaft assembly which is simple and easy to manufacture.
