SUBSTANCE: invention relates to transport engineering. Connecting structure for an element in a vehicle body comprises first and second members. First member is made of steel and has a closed hollow section. First member is provided with a hardened portion having a tensile strength of 1,470 MPa or more, a portion of the base material having a tensile strength of less than 700 MPa and a transition portion between the hardened portion and the base material portion. Second member is made of steel and partially covers the outer surface of the first member. First and second members are welded to each other in the overlapping portion. Overlapping portion is located above the base material portion. Welded portion is located in the transition portion or base material portion in the first member.
EFFECT: higher strength of the connecting structure of the vehicle body member is achieved.
