FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electroplating, in particular to the deposition of protective nickel coatings on articles of zirconium and alloys based on it, and can be useful in atomic energy sphere in uranium-zirconium fuel rods production during surface preparation before galvanic nickel plating. Method for preparing the surface of articles of zirconium-based alloys prior to galvanic nickel plating involves exposing the surface of the article to a scanning flow of nickel particles of 50–250 mcm in size, accelerated by a compressed air stream until a uniform thickness and solidness of a nickel sublayer 1–2 mcm thick is formed on the surface to be treated, with a duration of 15–25 s/cm2. Flow rate of nickel particles is determined by the expression: where ν – velocity of nickel particles, m/s, d is the nickel density, kg/m3, L – length of particles acceleration to speed ν, m, R is the average radius of nickel particles, m, Ro is compressed air, Pa.
EFFECT: uniform coating with high adhesion is obtained.
